Course Summary: Public speaking is among the most important skills one needs in order to be successful in school, in business, and in life. Yet for most people, public speaking is one of the most common forms of anxiety! Can the fear of public speaking be transformed into a fun and rewarding experience? Absolutely! In this eight-week course, students will learn how to select a speech topic, research that topic, outline and organize their thoughts, and present their views effectively with clarity and confidence. Students will also learn how to present their "best self" in both virtual (online) and in-person environments, as well as how to avoid common public-speaking pitfalls.
Class size: 6-8 students
Class Time: 90 minutes per week*
Class Dates: 8 weeks*
Homework: Around 45 minutes of homework time each week.

About Coach Garwood
Buzz Garwood is a public school teacher in California with two credentials: amultiple subjects teaching credential; and a single subject credential in Industrial & Technology Education (ITE). Buzz has more than 30 years of teaching experience spanning multiple grade levels. In addition, he holds two master’s degrees (education; and educational administration) as well as a bachelor's in history. Currently, Buzz teaches middle school technology electives at Home Gardens Academy in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Outside the classroom, Buzz enjoys leading worship with his guitar at Christian churches and youth camps in Southern California.
