Reading Level 3

Course Summary: This class develops the 6-9th grade reading skills. Vocabulary, articulation, comprehension and speed are learned through listening, speaking, reading. Some writing will be required in this class. Be a better reader.

In this course:

• Quick assessments will be given for the first session. Readings will be assigned and introduced. One hour of reading is required between classes.
• Book and vocabulary discussion, key ideas identification, story structure presented. New reading introduced through listening skills.
• Second reading analyzed with focus on key ideas. New reading introduced through chorale reading.
• Third reading analyzed with focus on key ideas and story structure. New reading introduced through individual reading.
• Fourth reading analyzed through key ideas, story structure, and themes. New reading introduced.
• Quick assessment for progress and class needs. Fifth reading analyzed with key ideas, story structure, themes, and character point of view. New reading introduced.
• Continued development through practice. Focus on details.
• Focus on story structure.
• Focus on themes.
• Focus on integration of knowledge and ideas.
• Focus on text complexity.
• Quick assessment of ability and progress. Focus on text comprehension and application of reading skill.

Class Size: 6-8 students

Class Time: One hour per session*

Class Dates: 12 sessions*

Homework: Around 60 minutes after each session
